  • Korean architecture started 2,000 years ago. Architecture has made better spaces, and even better atmospheres, for human beings throughout history. Architecture meets many different social demands and provides places that can become bases for economic activity. Additionally, regional architecture reflects the local people's inherent lifestyle, and provides valuable cultural space that continues to next generation. The Korea Institute Of Registered Architects (KIRA) develops Korean architecture and propels it toward to the center of world architecture. Korea Institute Of Registered Architects (KIRA) “Korea Institute Of Registered Architects (KIRA), together with architects!” An architect is an expert who has a national architecture license. Architects design and carry out construction supervision for buildings. An architect is like a conductor, who must be aware of the entire process, from beginning to the completion of a building. KIRA consists of 16 city and provincial architect associations and 121 regional architect associations. It was established in 1965 for the purpose of developing pleasant cities and promoting Korean citizens’ understanding of architecture. Additional objectives include enhancing national competitiveness by developing construction culture, improving architectural skills, and supporting research for future architecture. Furthermore, KIRA fosters the dignity of over a thousand architects, promoting their rights and friendship, and contributes to the public. KIRA administers the Korea Architects Registration Board and KIRA Education Board, and also manages the careers of construction engineers and the output of architects, and supervises the registered architect examination. KIRA manages these boards and conducts the duties commissioned by the government. To establish better work places for architects, KIRA reforms laws, policies, and systems related to construction. Furthermore, it manages the KIRA Financial Corporative, and also provides educational training for architects to cultivate and expand their abilities. KIRA attends various meetings held by related international organizations to share the newest technology in architecture, and maintains good relationships with other nations. Additionally, through operating an eco-friendly architecture development institution, KIRA actively publicizes qualified architects the monthly publications “Korean Architects” and “The Architectural Culture News.” To find talented architects for the future and to inspire architects' creative will, KIRA plans to conduct several architectural culture promotional events such as the Rising Korean Architect Awards, Korean Architecture Awards, Korean Architecture Fair & Festival, the Seoul International Architecture Film Festival, Kids’ Architecture Class, and the KIRA National Convention. KIRA always dreams of further improvements in Korean architecture in the future. KIRA will open the path for Korean architects to jump into the center of world architecture in step with the global community. United architects, united institutes, united architecture! KIRA!
